As of August 2010, we are only one of two veterinary clinics in Northern Ireland which use Sevoflo - the latest and safest inhalant veterinary anaesthesia, and indeed we are the only clinic in this county using Sevoflo. While many  mixed and large animal practices in the area still use older injectable anaesthesia for convenience, All Creatures will only offer anaesthesia which minimizes the risks of anaesthesia and hastens the recovery time of your pet after an operation. We like to explain to you the excellent expert care our patients receive when they're here for a procedure or operation.

Since Sevoflo is exceptionally safe, we have successfully used it to anaesthetize 18 year old dogs, 22 year old cats, parrots, budgerigars, mice, gerbils, guinea pigs and rabbits for their surgeries. We have used it to particular success in critically ill patients, overweight pets, very elderly patients and in severe trauma cases. Sevoflo allows us to provide excellent control of your pet's anaesthesia, assuring a high degree of safety for your pet. Pet owners are delighted when their loved one comes bouncing out in the evening after the operation as if nothing had ever happened, and have pointed out that they have never seen this before at previous practices. Our staff have all taken additional extensive training in the use of this anaesthetic with particular thanks to Abbott Laboratories and the anaesthetic team at the veterinary faculty in Edinburgh. If your are not already a customer at our clinic, we challenge you to ask your vet if they are using Sevoflo yet!

As safe anaesthesia is a priority for both us and our customers, we also want to highlight our piped oxygen and active scavenging system which provides a constant flow of oxygen to your pet  during an operation and also removes harmful waste gases.

At All Creatures, our anaesthesias are carefully monitored both by our RCVS qualified nursing personnel and electronically. Our specialist equipment monitors breathing rates, heart rate and rhythm, blood pressure, temperature and blood oxygen levels.  After the operation, a nurse will stay with your pet until he has made a full recovery from the anaesthetic.

At All Creatures, we understand that when it's time for your pet's surgery, you want him safe, you want him comfortable, and you want him home quickly.

We are the best equipped and trained to provide this service in the County.

Preparation for your pet's anaesthesia

1)  No food is to be given for 12 hours before your pet's operation. You may give your pet its evening meal the night before but please take the food away after around 8pm.

2) Do not withhold water - it is important that your pet has access to water until admission for the operation.

3) For most surgeries your pet will be admitted in the morning between 8.30am

and 9.30am

4) Please leave a number and make sure we are able to contact you at all times on the day of your pet's operation.  We will text or call you when your pet's surgery is complete, or alternatively you may call for a full update after 2:00 pm.

5) For all routine surgeries such as neutering, we recommend that your pet's vaccines are up to date at the time of admission (ie, a booster vaccination administered within the last 12 months).

SPECIAL OFFER

If you need to get your adult pet's vaccines up to date again

prior to surgery, get both injections for the price of one.

All Creatures - still driving veterinary prices down!

6) On admission you will be asked to sign an admission consent form allowing us to carry out the anaesthesia and surgery on your pet. For your own convenience you can download this from the forms section of our website to save you some time on the morning of your pet's operation. Don't forget to ask us if you need anything else done at this time - it might be easier for your pet to get a microchip, have her teeth cleaned, nails clipped or glands emptied while she is asleep.

7) Your pet will be carefully examined prior to an operation and if we feel that your pet is unfit for surgery in any way, we will inform you of this before we take any further action. To minimize risk further in your pet's surgery, we may ask for your consent to carry out pre-anaesthetic blood testing.  This may give us an early warning of any internal problems which we might not otherwise detect and allow us to tailor an anaesthetic regime which is most suitable for your pet. Elderly patients, critically ill patients, pets with kidney or liver disease and pets undergoing long operations may require the use of intravenous fluids during their operation.

Please note that all anaesthesia carries some risk to your pet - at All Creatures we will always do our best to minimize this.

We know your pet is in safe hands. If you have any worries regarding your pet's operation, please do not hesitate to call us or visit us.
