We Remember Cody

14 years of love and devotion

November, 1995 - January 26, 2010

From the moment he came into our lives when he was just 6 weeks old, we knew he was special.  With a mind of his own, as a youngster Cody was a handful.  He was also the most loving dog I've ever known.  Cody was wild with energy as a young puppy and dog.  Until he was 8 years old, we were treated to his version of the "Bichon buzz" -- running around the coffee table on an almost daily basis.

Amongst his favorite things: Kleenex, toilet paper, paper products of any kind, socks! Underwear!  When Cody was 8, he was diagnosed with glaucoma and a non-healing ulcer in his left eye.  After a few months of treatment, his eye had to be removed.  He was able to function at 100% after that for 2 years.  At 11, he was diagnosed with kidney stones and required surgery for removal.  He came through it with flying colors.  He also had an above-the-skin benign tumor between his eyes that required removing.  Lots of stitches and pain meds later, he recovered from these things as well.  Unfortunately after that, a cataract started maturing in Cody's right eye, and his hearing started to go.  We started keeping things the same at home so he knew where he was at all times.  Cody was spoiled in his last few years of life.  He was such an amazing companion pet and tough cookie through all of his surgeries.  He had a bed in almost every room.  He slept on his "sister's" bed & took late-afternoon naps in his "mom's" bed.  As Cody's hearing and sight grew worse, his mom and sister got him a dog stroller.  Cody went everywhere with his family after that; garage sales on Saturday mornings, trips to Miramar Park at Esplanade for "white dog club", shopping extravaganzas, trips to Santa Barbara, visits to see his "brother" in the mountains.  However, Cody was happiest at home with his family, sitting next to them on the couch and being held like a baby.

The Cook family says "Thank You to Bay Animal Hospital and specifically Dr. Goodell" for taking such excellent care of Cody for 11 years.  Also, thank you to Rosa who was with us at the end with Cody along with Dr. Goodell.  It was hard to say goodbye like that, but it was the only option. We wanted to make Cody as comfortable as possible.  It was the very, very least we could do for such a special baby whom we will never, ever forget.

Our thanks to Cody's "Mom" and "Sister", Brenda and Julie Cook, for this lovely memorial tribute

Vas

1994 - August 26, 2009

Our Vas was adopted 14 years ago from Bay Animal Hospital as a young rescue cat who had had a tough life on the street. He had a distinctly rakish look due to one of his ears having been eaten by ear mites prior to his rescue - he was clearly a trooper! Over the years he has been our buddy and baby - loyal, cuddly, vocal (boy did he like to yowl at night!), loved treats, chicken, and yes - roses (new flowers were never safe and my wife and I adopted the habit of giving him his very own rose to munch on instead of knocking down any more vases).

While his extreme sense of smell and cleanliness required 3 litter boxes cleaned daily (for his sole use!), that was the only area in which he was high maintenance. He thrived as the only cat in the household - project managing us, greeting and cuddling guests and contractors, playing with his water fountain, snoring when he enjoyed a deep sleep, and leaving paw prints as evidence of his cleanliness. But most of all we enjoyed his happiness of finally having a backyard oasis to explore in these last 2 years, where he watched and attempted to talk to the birds by chirping a response to them via quiet meows and occasional yowls, and his puppy-like behavior of trotting after us.

Vas developed signs of kidney failure and in the past month experienced high blood pressure - this was reduced under the care of Dr. Goodell. But one night he was suddenly mentally gone: he failed to recognize us and stopped eating and drinking. He had suffered an untreatable severe stroke or neurological disease in addition to the identification of additional serious medical problems.

We miss our terrific little Vas (aka Scooter, Furry) and thank Dr. Goodell and the staff of Bay Animal Hospital for their exceptional care of Vas and us.  It makes us happy to think of Vas in heaven trotting and chewing on grass, lounging in a sunbeam, or playing with a small water flow happy and at peace.

Our thanks to Mark and Monika Auburn for this memorial tribute

In Memory of "ZENA"

May 1997 - January 25, 2009

On Sunday morning, I had to say goodbye to my little baby. She put up an awesome fight against chronic renal failure. By the time she was showing signs that something wasn't right, she was already in the end stage of her disease. She had a lot of doctor visits, meds and needles the last four months of her life, but she was a trooper to the end. Her last night was really bad, so I brought her in the next morning to end her suffering. Her passing was peaceful and without pain. She slipped away looking into my eyes, feeling my touch, and hearing me tell her how much I love her. I'm so grateful that I was with her as she passed and that I could give her a peaceful end to her battle.

Zena adopted us when she was three months old. One day my husband Steve, drug me into a pet store to get another kitty. It was like a spell came over him out of nowhere. We already had two at home and that was plenty. He insisted we go in and after a brief debate, I agreed to go in and just look. No way were we bringing another one home. I walked by the cages, looking at all the little faces; it was kitten season. They were all cute but I was still in my "we don't need another cat" mode. Every time I walked by this one cage, this kitten would stop playing with her brother and would reach her paw out to me. When I walked away, she would just go back to playing with her brother. Curious, I opened her cage and picked her up. With her paws on my chest, she looked up at me and licked my chin. I looked back at Steve and told him "I'll take her." From that day on, she has filled our lives and hearts with PURE love and joy. It seemed meant to be that she came into our lives. She was like my shadow. We seemed to worship one another. Steve said he has never seen a bond before like the one she and I had. He named her Zena (warrior princess). It turned out to be a good name for her, she was a hunter. She loved birds, squirrels, and bugs. She was the only one of my cats that earned her keep by exterminating spiders. Zena loved to drink water from the faucet, never ate people food or treats, just cat food, and would run laps around the house. She seemed to be a fitness nut. She also loved to lie in the sun and in front of the heater. When I sat on the couch, she would get on the back cushion and wrap herself around my head and press her face against my cheek. At night she would sleep next to me on my pillow and nuzzle my neck. Zena was just the sweetest cat. We are happy her battle is over but are heart sick over the loss.  Our thanks to Dr. Streiber, Dr. Goodell, April, and staff for the compassion and outstanding care we received.

Our thanks to Jennifer Randall for this memorial tribute.

General Maximus Von Dom ("Max")
 June 8, 2000 to January 6, 2009

Maximus or the "General" as he was called by his closest friends, was quite a character.  He loved to play with big balls. He would actually carry the ball around in his mouth to try to keep it from me. We would play soccer in our backyard and whenever he wanted to catch his breath, he would lay across the ball to keep me from kicking it around the yard. It was hilarious to watch and cracked me up each time he did it.  Maximus was a great companion and a great protector. He loved to let you rub his belly but only after he got to know you.

Max was active until the very end. We had no idea that he was sick. He lost control of his hind legs and then had multiple seizures over the course of 5 days.

An MRI revealed a large brain tumor that was not treatable. I miss him and know that I will continue to miss him for a long time but I am happy that we discovered the cause of the problem quickly.  I am grateful for the professional services rendered by Dr. Goodell, the other doctors and the staff at Bay Animal Hospital over the course of the 4 years that Max was treated there. He enjoyed coming to the office to see you all.

Our thanks to Greer C. Bosworth, Esq. for this memorial tribute.

We Remember Kyra

Kyra joined our home in January 1997 and was a delight her whole life.  She was a delicate and playful kitty with whisper-soft fur and bright blue eyes.  Kyra was a sweet presence, light as a feather, who is dearly missed.

Our beloved kitty Kiwi passed away on June 20th 2008 at Bay Animal Hospital. She was surrounded by those who loved her most, & her passing was peaceful & with no pain.  Kiwi knew she was loved so much, right up until the very last second of her life...  Kiwi was such a special part of our life.  She came into our life when she was just 7 weeks old.  She had been with us for over 16 years.  Kiwi touched our hearts with her loving, gentle ways.  She had the sweetest disposition & playful personality.  Kiwi had the most beautiful, big green eyes & sweet soothing purrrr... And we miss that purrr more than words can express.

She has seen use through so many events over the years... marriage, three children & so much more.  We miss her & she will always be in our hearts.  We would like to sincerely thank Bay Animal Hospital for their kindness, support & compassion through this difficult time for our family.

We Remember Hannaleia

Hannaleia aka Hanny girl was Doby Otterstrom's daughter. She passed away on Wednesday morning while under her doctor's care for her liver problem.

We were the ultimate soul mates, my baby girl 7 years 7 months old. I feel as though my heart and life has been torn apart.  Hanna was very much like a small human being, she was bright and seemed to understand when spoken to. She would tune her floppy ears at attention when I spoke to her and sometimes barked back if she disagreed. As a dog she enjoyed laying out in the sun, going for walks on the strand , Lake Havasu and just going bye bye in the car was a thrill. She loved being around her people, cuddling up with me at night and enjoyed sleeping in ....just like mom. Always there by my side protecting my world!  Like a person, she is not replaceable and will be missed in my heart and home forever.

I'll continue to kiss you everyday of my life and hold you near as if you were here,  I can feel you softly soaring through my atmosphere.  I'm so glad I got to tell you how much I loved you everyday.... both with a smile on my face during the good times and with tears towards the end.

I love you Hanna forever and ever and thanks for the GREATEST gift you gave me

YOUR UNCONDITIONAL LOVE!!!!! Till we meet again.

I would like to thank doctors Gilman for her time and dedication towards Hanna's treatment, Feringa, Goodell

and the staff at Bay Animal Hospital for their support and compassion during this difficult time.

We Remember Lacroix

July 1997 – February 2007

Our little “Lacroix” was a sweet natured and gentle cat.  We adopted her from a cat shelter 8 ½ years ago when she was sitting looking completely defeated and exhausted in the ‘24 hours until euthanasia’ cage.  They neutered her and then asked us to pick her up.  This meant picking her up on the day of our wedding and as the shelter would not wait for us we put her in a suite at a kitty hotel for her first night with a sunning window and orders to please feed her, groom her and bath her so she could start to feel better.   We stayed our wedding night at a hotel then checked out the next morning to go and get her and take her home.  We had a vet check her over with a grim report but after 6 months of love, attention and medical care we had her fit and healthy and happy.  She was such a treasure!  She saw us have 2 children (now 8 and 3 ½) which she helped care for and entertain.  She would come and get her Mom & Dad when either of the babies cried when they were little and meow until we picked them up, and if anyone was sick she would go and get help from another family member and meow at them until they followed her.  Our son’s first words were ‘Goo-gwah’ (his attempt to say her name) and his first steps were taken while calling her name and walking around the house to find her.

She loved to cuddle Mommy at night and get snuggled, brushed and cuddled by the kids in the morning, as long as they were very quiet and moved very slowly.  She also liked to watch TV with her legs crossed on the bed at night.  She was a special part of our family and was loved very much.  Lacroix, we miss you, but we understand that it was time for you to move on.  We like to think that where you’ve gone you are running through green fields chasing butterflies…..

‘Our little angel with fur’

Lacroix was an angel with fun

It was sad when she died

She was as skinny as a bun

Her hair was as soft as silk but she didn’t like milk

When I heard that she died, I thought that Dad lied……

I love you and I love your ashes, I see the picture of us and it makes me feel good.  I wish can you come back…
